Day 1: Home Visits in St. Marks

Before heading out for the day

Our first day in Grenada, we went to the parish of St. Marks. Accompanied by Ms. Hopkins and Dr. Modeste, we walked house to house and performed blood pressure checks, blood glucose checks, and breast exams. It was rare to see an individual without either a high BP or a high blood glucose. We interviewed each person on their diet and exercise, and if the individual's condition was severe enough Dr. Modeste would write a prescription. This was my favorite day, and a great first exposure to the kindness and warmth of the Grenadian people. Everyone we encountered was extremely hospitable and grateful for our service. One did not leave someone's home without a gift of a mango or some other fruit or veggie.
